Case Study

As part of our mission, Voices from the Periphery will engage in immersive case studies, where we travel to different regions to uncover the local histories and voices of subaltern communities. These case studies will explore not only the historical and social narratives of marginalized people but also their everyday lives, customs, and traditions. By documenting their daily lifestyles and delving into their myths and folklore, we aim to build a comprehensive understanding of how these communities have navigated the complexities of marginalization. Through this hands-on approach, we seek to preserve and amplify the rich, yet often overlooked, cultural legacies of these groups, ensuring that their stories are recognized and valued in the broader historical context.
In conducting these case studies, we will adopt an interdisciplinary approach that blends oral history, ethnography, and cultural studies. By engaging directly with community members, we aim to move beyond mere observation and foster meaningful dialogues that allow for a more nuanced representation of their experiences. Our methodology will prioritize participatory storytelling, where individuals and communities narrate their histories in their own words, rather than having them mediated through an external scholarly lens. This ensures that our documentation remains authentic, preserving the linguistic, emotional, and cultural nuances that conventional historical records often overlook. Additionally, we will incorporate multimedia elements—audio recordings, video interviews, and photographs—to create a multi-dimensional archive that captures the essence of these lived experiences.
Collaboration will be at the heart of our efforts. We will work closely with local historians, activists, and cultural practitioners who have long been engaged in preserving these narratives. By forging partnerships with grassroots organizations, we can ensure that our research is not extractive but mutually beneficial—providing these communities with resources, platforms, and recognition. Our ultimate goal is not just to document but to empower; by shedding light on the resilience, struggles, and cultural richness of subaltern groups, we hope to challenge dominant historical frameworks and foster a more inclusive understanding of history. Through these immersive case studies, Voices from the Periphery aspires to rewrite historical narratives from the ground up, ensuring that these voices resonate across generations.
