Our Mission

At Voices from the Periphery, our mission is to engage in the rigorous intellectual pursuit of excavating and amplifying the epistemologies and ontologies of historically marginalized and subaltern communities. By interrogating dominant hegemonic discourses and employing interdisciplinary methodologies, we aim to decenter Eurocentric and elite-driven narratives that have systematically effaced the lived realities of these communities. Our work is predicated on the critical examination of power dynamics, cultural hegemony, and historiographical erasures, thereby fostering a scholarly platform that foregrounds the multiplicity of voices rendered invisible in conventional academic paradigms. Through empirical research, theoretical inquiry, and oral archives, we seek to advance a praxis-oriented framework of epistemic redress, contributing to the decolonization of knowledge production.

Our Vision

We envision Voices from the Periphery as a vanguard institution in the reconceptualization of global historiography, where subaltern perspectives are rearticulated as central to the understanding of history, culture, and society. We envisage a scholarly landscape in which the silenced voices of marginalized communities are recuperated and reinserted into the grand narrative, not as ancillary but as constitutive agents of historical transformation. Guided by poststructuralist, postcolonial, and deconstructionist frameworks, our vision is to challenge the epistemic violence entrenched in traditional historiography, thereby catalyzing a paradigmatic shift toward pluralistic, intersectional, and anti-hierarchical modes of knowledge. Through our intellectual endeavors, we seek to dismantle the entrenched dichotomies of center-periphery and empower subaltern voices as integral interlocutors in the construction of a more equitable historical consciousness.

The poet and the historian differ not by writing in verse or in prose. The true difference is that one relates what has happened, the other what may happen.

— Poetics, Aristotle

"Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship."

— George Orwell, 1984

Society does not consist of individuals, but expresses the sum of interrelations, the relations within which these individuals stand.

— Karl Marx, Grundrisse: Foundations of the Critique of Political Economy

Be the listener of those silent voices.
Be the speaker of those silent words.

"It is truly inspiring for people like me, an old man, to witness such initiatives. Engaging with students always brings fresh perspectives and new ideas, which is both enriching and refreshing. As your name suggests, Voices from the Periphery holds the promise of uncovering and documenting the histories of marginalized communities, shedding light on stories that often remain unheard. This endeavor rekindles our hope in the youth of our country, reminding us that the next generation is committed to exploring and amplifying the voices that history has long neglected. "

"Aayush and his team Voices from the Periphery serves as a vital bridge between the margins and the mainstream. We must recognize how most writings predominantly center on the mainstream, often neglecting the voices of the marginalized. Here, I hope we can discover a path toward truly understanding those who have long remained unheard."
